You’ve come a long way with Danish (kudos to you!) and you feel relatively at ease speaking in Danish in most everyday situations. You’ve maybe even passed a Danish test. But still… you feel that you’re “not there” yet. Your Danish skills could still do with a little improvement, perhaps as far as accuracy, clarity and pronunciation.
Look no further! This course was designed with you in mind!
The purpose of this course is to equip you to better manage your day-to-day life in Danish and to make sure you keep improving your Danish. Cos’ hey! Learning Danish is not a sprint but a journey, right?
With this course we’re not preparing you for an exam – but that’s okay, because all you want is just to keep improving your Danish.
We do this by working with different learning material that includes everyday Danish. We use some written material, but our primary sources will be audio and video from the media and podcasts, including debate, entertainment, interviews, or commercials.
Through doing this course, you’ll gain a broader and more polished vocabulary. We’ll teach you some of the small Danish words that can change the meaning of a sentence, the correct use of expressions and phrases that Danes use in everyday speech, and much more!
You are a go-getter who’s not afraid of a challenge; therefore, our combination of discussions, debates, short role-play exercises and student presentations is right up your alley and will ensure you speak a lot of Danish – which is what you need down the last stretch towards a more accurate and confident Danish.
And guess what? You get to pick the topics we’ll be focusing on! At the beginning of the course, you and your fellow students decide what topics you want to get better at, and then the course is tailored to your group’s specific wishes.
While we discuss various topics and engage in student presentations to expand your vocabulary, we’ll also focus on the language itself. Like, what happens to the language when Danes talk together? What happens to the pronunciation?
Thanks to the course’s emphasis on pronunciation, you’ll learn to understand Danes better when they speak quickly or indistinctly – and you’ll also become aware of what you can do to make your own pronunciation better and ‘more Danish’.
And if there’s anything in your pronunciation that gets in the way and hinders smooth communication in Danish, we’ll address it through personalised instructions and help from your teacher on how to improve.
Finally, to help you express yourself in Danish without always feeling that hint of insecurity regarding specific aspects of the language, we’ll also go through areas of Danish grammar that you might still have difficulty with.
So, as you can see, this course covers language, vocabulary, and pronunciation – within the area of everyday Danish. By the time you’ve completed the course, your Danish will have improved, and you will communicate more confidently and accurately with your Danish colleagues and with your Danish family and friends.
Prepare for 2-3 hours of homework per week in the form of video and audio clips, texts, short writing exercises, presentations and grammar and pronunciation exercises.
For now, the lessons will take place over Zoom.
